As the New York adult-use cannabis market begins to scale, operators across the state are facing increased regulatory scrutiny. Recent inspections by state regulators have made one thing very clear: every operator must properly tag their plants and inventory, both physically and electronically.

What Inspectors Are Looking For

During recent site visits, inspectors have been issuing notices of violation to operators who fail to comply with tagging requirements. Specifically, inspectors are checking to ensure:

  • Physical Tags: Each plant and packaged inventory item must have a durable, visible tag attached. These tags should remain legible throughout the life of the plant and the movement of products.
  • Electronic Tracking: All plants and inventory must also be tracked in an electronic system that is integrated with New York’s seed-to-sale requirements. Regulators are comparing physical tags to digital records to verify accuracy and compliance.

Failure to comply with either of these requirements may result in formal notices, penalties, and potential disruptions to operations.

How Canix Can Help

Canix helps operators meet mandatory compliance regulations. Operators can:

  • Print compliant plant and inventory tags on-demand
  • Sync physical tags with electronic records automatically
  • Reduce manual errors and double entry
  • Prepare confidently for inspections with real-time compliance dashboards

Takeaway

If you’re an operator in New York, now is the time to double-check your tagging processes. Make sure every plant and product has both a physical tag and a corresponding digital record. Doing so will not only keep you compliant but also protect your business from costly interruptions.
